Dental Bridge

3D rendering of a dental bridge being placed over a missing tooth gap that is flanked by two shavedDental bridges are just that: a bridge that spans the gap between two teeth to help restore a missing tooth. Dental bridges are used to hold a false tooth in place in a spot where a tooth is missing in your mouth, allowing you to regain both the function and appearance of your smile.

If you are missing a tooth, then the other teeth in your mouth can start to move into that empty space. This has the potential to cause problems with your jaw and your bite by causing excess stress on the area around the missing tooth. If you need a dental bridge, our knowledgeable team at Bravo Smile can help you with your needs today.

What Types of Bridges Are Available?

There are a few different types of dental bridges available, and they vary on cost as well as material. Our professional dentists can help you determine which type will be best for your needs. A traditional dental bridge is the most common. They are used when you are missing a tooth and have implants or natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth. They are small, lightweight, and very comfortable when chewing. These types of bridges are generally made with porcelain and metal or ceramic. With great oral care after the bridge is placed, traditional bridges can last for many years.

Cantilever bridges are used when there is only one tooth available to support the replacement tooth. These bridges need to be carefully planned out to ensure the best possible placement for absorbing the bite when you are chewing and distributing pressure. These are normally made of the same material as traditional bridges.

A Maryland bonded bridge is also called a “resin-bonded bridge.” A Maryland bridge is normally used for teeth that need to be replaced closer to the front side of the patient’s mouth. They are made of a metal framework with a porcelain or plastic tooth built around it. A Maryland bonded bridge is attached to the surrounding teeth with metal wings that fit behind the teeth on either side.

Implant supported bridges are exactly as described. They are a bridge that is supported by implanted teeth on either side. These are often used when there are multiple teeth missing in a row, or in a high-pressure area of your mouth. Implants are prosthetic teeth normally made of porcelain that are screwed into your jawbone, so these are permanent replacements that will look and function like the rest of your teeth.
